I've never been the best at setting goals for myself, I always seem to end up forgetting about them, being a bit lazy or too distracted to focus on them, but this year I'm actually going to try to set a few for myself and stick to them.
My goal for the academy will be learning to use colours a bit better in my art. Everyday, I am going to spend a half an hour (from 7:30 to 8:00) to study colour theory or work on colouring. In the past, I’d almost always do just black and white exclusively with my sketches, mainly because I am comfortable with that and have never experimented with colours. Learning to use colour harmonies and contrasts seems like a pretty important thing for an artist. By the end of January, I would love to have beautiful colours highlighted throughout my work. I plan on setting a reminder on my phone and pinning 5 colour pallets I like to a Pinterest board to help keep me motivated. I’ll try to keep on track the best I can. I sometimes run into a bit of an art block, but every artist encounters that at one point or another and I’m sure I will find inspiration in some of the artists I follow. My personal goal is to get better at writing, more specifically getting my thoughts onto paper. I've always had some issues trying to get my thoughts organized and written into coherent sentences. I end up just staring at a blank page trying to think of something to write. So I think this goal will help me out a bit. If I can get better at writing my thoughts down then I'm pretty sure a lot of things within my schoolwork will become a lot easier than it is now. I plan on focusing on getting the gist of what I’m trying to say into jot notes first and then try to blend them into sentences after so I don’t feel so overwhelmed.
